Wonderware Supervisory, Historian and MES Connectivity

Wonderware understands the importance of integrating Wonderware® products with other software applications on the plant floor — creating one effective system for the entire organization.

We offer the following solutions for integration with other Supervisory, Historian and MES applications:

  • Using the FactorySuite® Gateway product, Proxy Objects or DA Servers enables OPC connectivity for Wonderware software. OPC technology can unite disparate systems by connecting Wonderware software to other supervisory, DCS and historian products.
  • Use of Microsoft's SQL Server technology provides SQL and ODBC connectivity to other plant data systems
  • Wonderware solutions facilitate open integration with XML standards

FactorySuite Gateway

Open Connectivity Options

Wonderware's FactorySuite Gateway product is a universal protocol translator, capable of translating all major protocols to any protocol required by a network component. This exceptional product furthers Wonderware's ability to provide the most open and extensible industrial software products on the market.

Continuing Wonderware's tradition of providing open and easily accessible software products, the FactorySuite Gateway:

  • Offers a universal protocol converter between DDE, FastDDE, the SuiteLink™ protocol and OPC technology;
  • Enables Wonderware's InTouch® HMI, IndustrialSQL Server™ historian and Industrial Application Server to act as OPC servers or clients;
  • Facilitates integration between legacy SuiteLink and DDE applications with newer products that leverage ArchestrA® technology; and
  • Provides simultaneous connections to multiple automation systems or devices

Wonderware's FactorySuite Gateway product gives Windows application programs access to data from a variety of data sources. The following matrix indicates supported server/client mappings.

Proxy Objects

A Proxy Object is an automation object within the Wonderware® Industrial Application Server's Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Using Proxy Objects, users can seamlessly integrate Industrial Application Server (IAS) applications with virtually any HMI or automation system, into one centralized database.

Types of Proxy Objects

InTouch Proxy Object

The InTouch® Proxy Object facilitates connectivity between Wonderware's Industrial Application Server and InTouch HMI. It also enables Industrial Application Server users to browse an InTouch application's Tag Database and import data from the InTouch HMI to the Industrial Application Server.

DDE/SuiteLink Proxy Object

The DDE/SuiteLink client object is a key member of the core set of automation objects within the ArchestrA system infrastructure. It is a DI object that allows access to a running I/O server and it also provides data points to the galaxy application objects.

OPC Client Proxy Object

Using the OPC Client Proxy Object, IAS users can access virtually any third-party OPC Server application (i.e., HMI, DCS or historian applications from most vendors).

iProxy Object

The iProxy Object enables tight integration between applications created with the Wonderware Industrial Application Server and GE Fanuc's iFix® and FIX™ 32 HMIs. Using the iProxy Object, users can also consolidate data from existing InTouch, iFIX and FIX 32 databases into one centralized database. The iProxy object is compliant with OPC DA 2.05 or later standards.

The iProxy object supports the following operations on I/O points from FIX32 and iFIX applications:

  • Subscriptions, which are implemented via scan groups
  • Read transactions, which are implemented via block reads
  • Write transactions, which are implemented via block writes

The address space of target FIX32/iFIX applications can be browsed using the OPC Item Browser which allows you to add iFIX and FIX32 tagnames as ArchestrA attributes.

How to Obtain Proxy Objects

InTouch and OPC Proxy Objects are included within the Wonderware Industrial Application Server's ArchestrA IDE. Other Proxy Objects can be found on the Wonderware Device Integration CD, which is provided to Wonderware Customer Support subscribers, and Wonderware Customer Support website at www.wonderware.com/support/mmi.
