Functional Capabilities

Highlights

The Wonderware® Equipment Operations Module combines the functional capabilities found in Wonderware’s Production Events Module and Formula Management Module. Furthermore, the Equipment Operations Module offers:

  • Centralized management of equipment and product formula definitions as well as control system downloads;
  • Consistent interpretation and enforcement of operating guidelines and procedures -- for accurate equipment setup according to product specifications;
  • Real-time production events are automatically recorded in a database -- including a log of set-points downloaded to equipment, for the immediate detection of deviations from specifications;
  • A production context for the process, formula and event data using a standard structure (ISA-95);
  • Traceability across production processes and areas as well as different systems, through complete “as built” records;
  • Analysis and reporting of product and production history, including a full genealogy and comparisons of “plan vs. actual” for material consumption and cycles times; and
  • A standard data model for easy integration to the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in real-time.

Formula Management

The Wonderware Equipment Operations Module handles formula management including product definitions and equipment setups. It offers:

    A centralized repository for managing formula information including formula Import/Export;
  • The ability to upgrade InTouch® Recipe Manager solutions;
  • Flexibility for operator adjustments within limits specified by management;
  • Automatic downloading of formulas to programmable logic controller (PLC) and control systems, including accurate log records of downloaded set-points; and
  • The linking of downloaded formula information with business processes (i.e., the ISA-95 structure using Production Requests and Segment Requirements).

Recording Production Events

In addition, the Equipment Operations Module provides capabilities for capturing and storing information from production events. They include:

  • Automatic database storage of production attributes when defined production events occur, in real time. Examples of these attributes are:
    • Raw material consumption,
    • Production of intermediate and finished lots or batches,
    • Material transactions between operations,
    • Equipment parameters during processing and
    • Records of the responsible personnel during shift changes;
  • A library of reusable component templates that can be configured, replicated and deployed -- enabling rapid application development; and
  • The linking of captured information with business processes, leveraging an ISA-95 structure with Production Responses and Segment Responses.

The Equipment Operations Module utilizes a Microsoft® SQL Server database for storage -- ensuring support for industry standards as well as easy integration and scalability -- resulting in decreased cost of ownership. To reduce the cost of business-to-manufacturing integration and support standardization efforts, the structure of the production database follows the naming conventions and modeling structures of the ISA-95 “Enterprise-Control System Integration” standard.

Reporting

The Equipment Operations Module offers reporting capabilities for product and production history through Wonderware’s Information Server software. Any person in the organization can immediately and securely access and analyze:

  • The consumption of individual material or production resources;
  • Formula usage information and actual set-points, downloaded to the process;
  • Events related to specific process segments, equipment or personnel;
  • Actual quantities and parameters for individual product or material lots; and
  • Forward- and reverse-genealogy reporting for raw materials and finished products.
