What's New in InControl 7.11 Real-Time Control Software?

InControl software is a real-time application engine appropriate for a wide range of functions that require high-speed, deterministic data and logic processing. Running on an open system, InControl software provides a robust control package with diverse connectivity and sophisticated logic execution capabilities for complex scripting, discrete and process applications.

New Features

InControl Version 7.11 is significantly enhanced for greater flexibility and improved ease of use. Enhancements include:

  • An integrated OPC® Client and Server certified to support OPC v2.05
  • User-defined functions and function block support
  • Updated editors
  • An expanded FactoryObject Library
  • A larger instruction set
  • Additional I/O interfaces

Editor Enhancements

All editors have been updated to provide a cohesive look and feel and a Microsoft® Windows® 2000 operating system appearance. Enhancements also include.

  • Improved debug support in Text Editor
  • The ability to add functions to the toolbar
  • Multi-select of RLL and SFC elements for clipboard functions
  • Text drag-and-drop in Text Editor
  • Added support for Symbol Picker
  • Improved Undo-Redo capability in Text Editor
  • The option to call user-defined functions and function blocks from RLL
  • The capability to use RLL as a language for a user- defined function or function block

Operating System Support

The InControl 7.11 Development Environment and Runtime Engine are now supported on Microsoft® Windows 2000, XP and 2003 operating systems. This enables customers to move their existing applications and build new applications on the latest operating systems to improve security, reliability and maintainability.

FactorySuite® Features

The following additions improve the InControl software's ability to function as a FactorySuite scripting engine.

  • Event-based execution. Enhancements to the formerly synchronous execution include:
  • Factory Object's ability to interrupt the RTE scan. When an event occurs, the function is called. If the InControl software causes the event, the execution will be within the normal scan. If the event is caused externally, it will execute in parallel with ICRTE. The event's OS priority determines whether a scan bump might occur. But, typically, the scan will not experience adverse effects while event completes.

  • Support for asynchronous OCX, function block and function calls. This enhancement allows the user to make calls to excessively time-consuming functions, without adversely affecting the scan. This is particularly useful with FactoryObjects, such as the Serial Port FOE or the IndustrialSQL Server™ Active Data Grid, which may incur long response times.

RTE-Specific Enhancements

To improve RTE, Wonderware:

  • Enhanced the Report feature. Report Faults was changed to Report Status and includes additional information.
  • Added event support for FactoryObjects.

Framework

Users can now:

  • Upload retentive data from the target RTE. Symbol Manager variables (e.g., tuning parameters from PID) can be set on RTE and then uploaded into initial values.
  • Choose a No Source option for programs. This feature allows users to hide the source code of any POU, so it could be copied or given to other users without exposing the source. To obtain this functionality, the user can delete the source files for the POU that is to be hidden.

Symbol Manager

InControl Version 7.11 offers users:

  • A new Symbol Picker, which provides a fast and easy method for picking symbols. The symbol picker would pop up under predetermined instances, at which time the user can select a symbol and continue working where they left off.
  • The option to choose ANY when selecting FactoryObject (Microsoft ActiveX®) support methods.
  • An additional Type option for support of FactoryObject (ActiveX) methods. ANY will be included as a valid Type in Symbol Manager, but will have limited use (on either side of a simple assignment statement).
  • Enumeration support

New FactoryObjects

New FactoryObjects include:

  • DeadTime Delay
  • Derivative
  • Integrator
  • Lead Lag Control
  • Output/Rate Limiter Control
  • Ratio Station Control
  • Standard PID and ICSerial2 FactoryObjects

Compiler/Language Updates

Compiler/Language updates include:

  • Unification of graphical- and text-based Functions. The new Palette includes all functions available to the user in graphical (in RLL and FBD editors) and textual (in STL and SFC) representations.
  • Enumeration Support, with the addition of a new Enumeration user-defined type that contains DINT type values. The user provides names for valid DINT values.
  • Additional RTEMode and RTECommand enumeration types. The RTEngine.Mode variable has been changed to use the new RTEMode type.
  • Function / FB Support for scan / end_*, break and asynch methods
  • Case statements that have been updated to handle Constants

Communications

InControl Version 7.11's new communication devices include:

  • Wonderware's SuiteLink™ Server protocol
  • Wonderware's SuiteLink Client
  • OPC Server
  • OPC Client

Extensibility

The InControl Extensibility Toolkit 7.11 has been updated to include a self-extracting EXE.

User Documentation

New user-documentation features include:

  • HTML-based online Help
  • HTML-based online User Manual (excluding some I/O Drivers)
  • A PDF file (for printing) within the CD

Other Features

Other miscellaneous features that InControl Version 7.11 includes are:

  • Node connection indications, especially for remote RTE nodes. An icon in the status bar will show the RTE.
  • An Options Manager, which allows users to select fonts, colors and defaults.

Summary

InControl Version 7.11 offers a broad array of features to support a wide range of applications from FactorySuite scripting to discrete logic control, all the way up to complex process control.
