Wonderware Historian Data Management
Any Data, Any Source, Any Time
The Wonderware Historian — is easy-to-use right out of the box. It flexibly defines how data is acquired, stored and retrieved. All data, regardless of its source or time of entry, is fully integrated into a unified plant information database. Plant personnel are provided with seamless, easy retrieval of the full range of historical plant data, as well as configuration, event and summary information.
Wonderware's new Dynamic Reconfiguration capability enables users to easily change the historian's data collection configuration, without interrupting data collection or breaking the stream of process data.
Entire Wonderware Historian configuration databases can be imported or exported. In addition, users can edit configuration files with Microsoft Excel, allowing them to rapidly reuse valuable engineering.
Microsoft's Management and Configuration Console

ensuring efficient & flexible system management
(Click image to enlarge)The new Configuration Import/Export function makes the Wonderware Historian independent of a human-machine interface (HMI) provider. As a result, large, diverse manufacturing enterprises can standardize on the Wonderware Historian without replacing their existing systems.
Real-time production data can be acquired automatically, at full resolution, directly from an extensive range of data sources, including industry-standard OPC servers and more than 600 device-specific I/O Servers, including Wonderware's DA Servers (Data Access Servers).
Non-real-time, manual or off-network data can be fully incorporated into the real-time production database via a powerful and versatile set of data import tools.
The embedded Microsoft SQL Server technology also provides industry-standard SQL and ODBC connectivity to other plant data systems, such as lab and maintenance management systems. Now, all the data plant personnel need to make better decisions can be found in one place.
Security and Audit Trails for Regulated Industry Applications
The Wonderware Historian provides application development functions with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 regulations in mind, including:
- Audit trails;
- Configuration change logs;
- Manual data security; and
- Record updates.
Windows authentication is also available to better control system access to regulated processes.
Wonderware also offers a complete deployment guide for implementing validated FDA 21 CFR Part 11 applications. For many regulated industries, FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance is a business requirement. The Wonderware Historian has been designed to deliver the stringent data security and user access functionality features that can help plant personnel to comply with regulations required by the FDA. Wonderware's popular InSQL historian has been an important part of numerous FDA-validated applications.
Easy Extensibility for Plant-Wide Application Integration
The Wonderware Historian database is easily extended with additional tables, stored procedures and views to accommodate specific information requirements. Customized event detectors and actions can be created using standardized tools to extend the power of the event system. New I/O Servers can also be created as needed with the Data Acquisition Server (DAS) Toolkit, which can assist with the collection of important plant data.
Flexible and Secure Administration for Trouble-Free Maintenance
Multiple IndustrialSQL Server historians and associated Microsoft SQL Servers can be conveniently and securely managed through a single system management console. Based on the Microsoft Management Console, this single console can be accessed anywhere on the network, including the system administrator's desktop.
This "IT-friendly" Wonderware Historian console leverages the Microsoft Management Console to provide simple and flexible system administration services via a standardized point-and-click interface. The Microsoft Management Console is used by thousands of system administrators every day to manage system performance and configuration. Data collection and storage operations are never interrupted when configuring or administrating the system.
