What's New?

This latest release of the Wonderware Historian— is Version 9.0. Wonderware Historian 9.0 software includes:

  • Integrated Wonderware Information Server for web-based Reporting and Analysis
  • Support for enhanced retrieval modes to improve performance;
  • Better data storage management; and
  • Enhanced communications for slow and intermittent networks.

It also introduces a new Personal Edition for small applications or as an enhancement to HMI-based history logging.

New Software Developers’ Kit for Extensibility with the Industrial Application Server

A new extensibility Software Developers’ Kit (SDK) is available for Wonderware Historian developers who want to write advanced applications. Using this SDK, developers can perform specific analysis on Wonderware Historian data, bring other data into the Wonderware Historian, and easily manipulate data from the Industrial Application Server.

Enhanced Retrieval Modes Further Improve Performance

Wonderware has dramatically improved how the Wonderware Historian retrieves critical real-time plant information for more rapid decision-making. These powerful new data retrieval modes are designed to help industrial personnel extract valuable plant performance information with 90% fewer SQL statements, saving valuable IT resources.

Using the new data retrieval modes, plant personnel can quickly generate data queries to detect plant inefficiencies and maintenance issues or identify opportunities to improve plant performance.

For example, the Wonderware Historian's "Best-Fit" data retrieval mode returns only a fraction of the stored data, which significantly reduces data retrieval times. Yet it also preserves the data resolution that is vital for effective troubleshooting. Queries run faster and network traffic is reduced. Most importantly, problem-solvers have the data they need to optimize plant performance.

Better Data Storage Management for More Online History

In addition, the Wonderware Historian 9.0 software now includes a new storage algorithm designed to further reduce data storage requirements up to 70% in many cases. The new "swinging door" data storage algorithm, pioneered by Invensys’ Foxboro business unit, has been integrated into Wonderware Historian 9.0 software to greatly reduce data storage requirements and free up hardware. This is particularly useful for Continuous Process Industries that must store a lot of time-series data on-line for anlysis purposes.

Enhanced Communications for Low and Intermittent Networks

Wonderware also has enhanced the Wonderware Historian's connectivity to slow and intermittent data networks, often associated with distributed SCADA applications. Distributed SCADA applications have challenging data communication issues. Radio modem-based systems are still used in many applications where signal interruptions and slow data rates are common. Wonderware Historian 9.0 software can reliably acquire data from these sources. This is particularly useful for oil & gas, power transmission, water & wastewater as well as facility monitoring applications.

New Personal Edition for Enhancement of Basic HMI Logging

Also new in this release is the introduction of a new Personal Edition of the Wonderware Historian, which is designed for basic HMI logging needs. This edition supports the Microsoft Windows XP Pro operating system and SQL Server Personal Edition in 100- and 500-tag counts, and can be easily upgraded to Standard and Enterprise editions. Small system users can further improve productivity by using Wonderware’s advanced reporting and analysis clients.
