What's New in SCADAlarm™ 6.0 Event-Notification Software?

SCADAlarm™ 6.0 includes several new features that leverage the latest technologies to provide better security and control over alarms and events. SCADAlarm has become a standard component of most (human-machine-interface) HMI applications because of its ease of use and the functionality it provides.

TAPI Support

SCADAlarm 6.0 supports TAPI (Telephony Application Programming Interface). This is a Microsoft programming standard that enables telephony software to work with any TAPI compliant modem. This enables SCADAlarm to be device independent and allows users to choose standard off-the-shelf, inexpensive modems that are readily available in their area.

In addition, users benefit from a host of other features that are usable with TAPI and supported with SCADAlarm such as:

  • Support for standard RIFF (i.e. .WAV) files
  • Audio files leverage the latest in technology
  • Eliminates the conversion required with VOX files
  • Simplifies audio recording
  • Local annunciation over multimedia hardware
  • Support for multi-channel
  • Multiple modem support for one SCADAlarm system
  • Independent device configuration
  • Modems can be configured independently for different uses, such as incoming and outgoing calls

Setup for TAPI is as simple as selecting the driver for the particular modem, analogous to the ease of selecting a printer driver for a new printer. The modem drivers are included with the Microsoft® Windows XP, 2000 and 2003 operating systems.

Text-to-Speech

SCADAlarm 6.0 also enables text-to-speech technology. Now instead of needing to manually record voice files, SCADAlarm can generate the sound output directly from text. This saves users a tremendous amount of configuration time and enables companies to standardize on messages and audio.

Integrated Industrial Application Server Features

Industrial Application Server and SCADAlarm have proven to be a winning combination for quickly alerting personnel to changes and alarms in the control system. SCADAlarm 6.0 furthers this associating by providing support for the Industrial Application Server as a data center. SCADAlarm 6.0 has native communication to the Industrial Application Server using LMX and a built in attribute browser that links to an Industrial Application Server system for fast configuration.

Industrial Application Server Alarm Acknowledgement

Alarms or events that occur in an Industrial Application Server system can also be acknowledged easily through a new configuration window in SCADAlarm 6.0. Alarms and events can be acknowledged and listened to using all the standard SCADAlarm methods.

InTouch Batch Tag Imports

SCADAlarm 6.0 includes an InTouch tag browser that supports batch import of InTouch tag definitions into SCADAlarm. This enables faster configuration of alarms and events.

Support for Caller ID

Security is a main concern when implementing systems that enable control via external devices. SCADAlarm 6.0 expands the capabilities for increasing system security by supporting Calling Party Identification (CPID). This enables more flexibility and security when authenticating callers such as:

  • Automatic logins based on the caller's phone number
  • Restricted logins based on the caller's phone number
  • Hacker detection
  • Can also restrict access if no caller ID present

MSI Installation

SCADAlarm 6.0 installs using the Microsoft Windows MSI installation package. This provides additional features and benefits when installing, modifying, upgrading and removing SCADAlarm software.
