This powerful common environment is the ArchestrA® industrial information and automation software architecture. ArchestrA technology allows a group of HMI applications to function and be managed as a system, with centralized development, security, alarming, event detection, scripting and I/O referencing. This capability lowers the total cost for development and maintenance of a supervisory system, and facilitates standardization and easy deployment of applications across the entire enterprise.

From the inception of PC-based HMI and supervisory products, the development of applications has been based on the concept of tags. While simple and very portable from one project to another, a tag-based environment has the downfall of a flat namespace, with no inherent ability to link elements into more intelligent structures with built-in relationships and interdependencies.

Wonderware offers a better solution for supervisory application development and maintenance through its use of ArchestrA technology. With the ArchestrA software architecture, the plant model and production model are one, so applications are easily developed for both shop-floor and plant-wide solutions. This provides the basis for an enterprise-wide automation system rather than a system that treats manufacturing and business operations as independent entities.

Based on the latest Microsoft .NET XML/Web Services and Windows Server technologies, the ArchestrA software architecture facilitates easier integration and maintenance of production systems. All of Wonderware's latest products leverage ArchestrA technology.
