Terminal Services For InTouch
InTouch® software for Terminal Services extends the usefulness and robust features of the InTouch HMI to the Terminal Services environment.
In addition to all of the rich features that the InTouch software offers, Terminal Services allows users to install the InTouch HMI on a central server once and then execute the software multiple times. Client computers need only connect to an InTouch terminal session that resides on the server. The thin client could be a PC terminal or an embedded terminal device running on any one of a variety of operating systems.
Users throughout the enterprise will be able to access, visualize and interact with real-time HMI information from Wonderware's InTouch software, without a complete InTouch installation resident on the local computer.
Lower Total Cost of Ownership
InTouch software forTerminal Services permits centralized deployment, maintenance and management of software, re-use of existing hardware, and thin-client terminal usage to reduce the total cost of ownership associated with a project.
Market research has shown that the majority of the costs associated with a project are obtained after the system is deployed. The Terminal Services architecture significantly decreases the amount of time and money spent to upgrade, maintain and troubleshoot a system. Terminal Services also enables the re-use of existing hardware. Instead of purchasing new hardware and installing new networks, the benefits of the latest operating systems and software applications can be brought to the existing system. This results in much faster deployment and a significantly reduced hardware costs.
In addition, thin-client terminals can be used in place of regular computer nodes to provide additional low-cost views into the application or replacements for indicating devices, such as chart recorders or temperature controllers.
Terminal Services for InTouch applications can also run on PDAs and Tablet PCs, which offers mobility and an uninterrupted view into and control over the application. InTouch software for Terminal Services provides all the benefits of thin-client technology, while reducing the overall cost of system ownership.
In order to fully leverage the benefits of the client/server architecture, the InTouch HMI enables the application developer to utilize Remote Tag Referencing. Remote Tag Referencing allows the developer to create the InTouch application without using any local tagnames. At runtime, the client nodes connect to the tag server to access information.
Users can also leverage the new IOSetRemoteReferences script function, which enables the modification of all datasources in window by executing one line of code. This function allows users to update the display of real-time information with incredible speed.
Remote Tag Referencing enables companies to save time and money, because users can create one template and re-use it several times throughout the application.
Network Load Balancing
Network Load Balancing Services (NLBS) is one of the clustering technologies available with Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Advanced Server. A cluster is a group of independent computers that work together to run a common set of applications or services and provides an image of a single system to the client. With NLBS, users can enhance the availability of InTouch applications and balance the network load over many different terminal servers.
TSAC Support
Microsoft's Terminal Services Advanced Client (TSAC) is an ActiveX® control based on a Win32® application programming interface, which can be used to run Terminal Services sessions within Microsoft's Internet Explorer. By using TSAC, users can now run full-featured InTouch applications across the Internet with the same performance and speed offered by a local area network (LAN).
OS Support
Terminal Services for InTouch software enables the distribution of InTouch applications and client support for multiple operating systems. They include Microsoft Windows CE; Embedded Windows NT® (NTE); Windows for Workgroups 3.11, 95, 98; Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0; and Windows 2000, 2003 and XP operating systems, as well as Linux® and UNIX® operating systems.
